Samantha Ruth Prabhu, who was recently seen in the Raj and DK web series, Citadel: Honey Bunny, graced the Business Today’s Most Powerful Women event, for a session titled The Star and the Start-up: Fame, Fans, Fortune. At the session, she discussed various things, and it also included her venturing into Hollywood and talking about South films making it to mainstream cinema.
Reflecting on her journey and ambitions, Prabhu commented on the growing opportunities for actors across borders. “I think it’s a great time to be an actor right now,” she said, noting that inclusivity is a regular topic of conversation in her professional circles.
“People speak about it (inclusivity) in every room that I’m in, so I don’t think it’s too far from reality,” added the Eega actor.
Prabhu also offered insights into why it took so long for South Indian cinema to gain international acclaim, despite its high-quality storytelling.
“I haven’t thought about this much, but I think South Indians might be great filmmakers but not as strong in marketing,” she admitted. She credited filmmaker SS Rajamouli for transforming the Indian cinema landscape with Baahubali.
She said, “Rajamouli sir really opened up the gates. I think, for the first time, he thought, ‘Let’s see, I think this film has wings,’ and I’m really glad he did.”
Addressing the current trend of South Indian films being remade or adapted for wider audiences, Prabhu said, “I don’t think anything is impossible now.”
Samantha was recently seen in Citadel: Honey Bunny, alongside Varun Dhawan. Helmed by Raj and DK, the series also features Kay Kay Menon, Saqib Saleem, Sikander Kher, and various others.
The six-episode show released on Prime Video on November 6.
